Review for Ronco Solar Power

Did not lower my bills as I had hoped!

We in July 2010 got a system installed by Ronco. Financed through Ronco with GE. Our bills ran between $150-$350 per month. We take care of my wife's 91 year old dad. He tends to turn on every light in the house including the electric heater whether its needed or not. There's a catch with installing/spending the money for a modern solar panel system. We are now on the grid producing electricity. A small 3kw system. What Edison does is if you're an electricity user like we are...even with the solar panels. They price you per kw at your usage. They do not figure your tier price adjusted for your grid production from your own panels. They "see" your usage and even though we're putting electricity back into the grid network which doesn't effect tier price we're obligated to pay for. We had hoped with our panel system our monthly electric bill would be lowered. At the end of each year...we have to pay a balloon payment which after 2 years...we see pretty much the same amount of money spent per year as we did before we got the panels. Included in that is our finance charges and our monthly GE purchase/finance payment of $170 per month plus the electricity used at the 3-4 tier price. Now, I know with having a 91 year old person to look after there's only so much we can do to keep his usage down and we try. But Edison has figured a way to take advantage of the power system (as I guess you expect from power companies) but, we're still scratching our heads how to solve this and justify spending the money on the solar panels.
