Who are the 10 best solar energy companies in Virginia based on solar company reviews?
SolarReviews helps you find the best solar installer by sharing below the largest collection of consumer solar company reviews of solar panel companies currently operating in Virginia. Some of these solar companies have also agreed to supply live pricing through the site if you request a solar quote, by entering your zip code above.
There are now more solar power companies operating in Virginia than ever before and more choice of solar products and solar installation companies to speak to about a solar system. The solar tax credit, great long term savings, net metering and an abundance of zero down solar lease and solar loan products are making home solar more popular.
Right across the solar industry in the United States consumer reviews have shown that local installers enjoy the highest levels of customer satisfaction. The large corporate solar companies such as Vivint Solar, Solar City Tesla and Sunrun have much lower reviews scores than local solar companies.

I contacted 3 suppliers of solar equipment: two in CA and one, Ipsun, in Northern VA.
All were competitive for price for a 28 panel installation on my carport. I had built the carport myself and decided to do the solar installation also, since several local installers would not even consider a quote without knowing my last year's electric usage. I explained that it didn't matter, since I planned to buy an electric car (a Volt) and would be aiming for an all-electric house. I currently heat with a heat pump and oil furnace backup. Herve went to bat for me with Dominion, and got approval for my installation. After a year's usage, I'm planning to add more panels to my garage roof to be totally solar dependent.... read more

Had a great experience with EDGE, which included having to put down a new roof on my DC rowhouse. Tony was on my roof at least twice checking on his team, and his team was present for all DC electrical inspections, etc. Also accompanied me through the whole SREC registration process, and handled all permitting in house. Very impressed. High quality installation, done right.... read more
Services: Residential Solar Electric
Excellent service, prompt and courteous communication from start to finish; the price was competitive, the presentation was straightforward. Unlike some of the other companies I interviewed, I did not feel that I was being pressured to make an immediate decision or commit to an expensive purchase without having time to consider the alternatives and to fact-check the information that I was given. I definitely recommend this company - they are professional, honest and very easy to work with.... read more

Very happy with the professionalism from the entire team. The only negative was the time to installation though I understand they were very busy and I had to wait my turn. Once installation was scheduled the install crew was very efficient and professional. They cleaned up after themselves and let me know what the next step was with the county and Dominion Energy. First full month bill after install only $2, hoping that continues.... read more
So, you think you want to go solar? Here’s why you should first look into “Renewable Energy Corporation” (REC) based in Timonium, MD. When I first contacted them I knew nothing about solar systems. REC sent a representative to my home, and after a quick review of our premises were able to present us with several roof array options. We had a choice between a basic 12 panel (3 kw array), or the one we chose, an 18 panel (5 kw array) which was the maximum panels this roof would accommodate after applying county rules & regulations. REC also prepared the required net-meter interconnection application to our electric company. The prepping didn’t stop there, REC also wired our electric panel and handled all the county inspections allowing the SolarEdge inverter connection. Keep in mind, every county & electric company has different rules & regulations that must be followed, REC knows what they are. Every tax break and rebate we were entitled to was made aware to us along with the guidance of how and where to apply for them. Our experience with REC was excellent and we extend our sincere thanks to Andrew, William and Sherri for all their help.... read more

We had Solar Services give us the only quote we could get in our area, and they came in where we expected price-wise. After working out the installation plans with our HOA (and buying more expensive panels to make the HOA happy), we were ready to begin. And then it rained. And rained. But finally we got our panels installed and inspected, and were able to turn it on yesterday! Solar Services was just an email or phone call away the whole process, and even came out to talk to the HOA and answer questions about the aesthetics of the system, potential problems, etc. Will and Matt are some of the nicest guys possible as the sales team.
The two "4 star" review sections below are because we were originally going to get a 24-panel system, but when we upgraded to all black Solaria panels, they wouldn't fit on our roof 8-across. It took until after we had already paid the deposit for them to notice, so we dropped from the 8.6kW system we expected to 7.5. Scheduling the install was another sticking point, but mostly not their fault. There was a ton of rain and they had to find a time that was sunny that still meshed with other installs. They were transparent about the process, but it still took longer than I would have liked.
Overall though, I would recommend them to anyone in the area interested in producing their own energy and getting away from coal or gas power plants!... read more

Sky NRG Solar recently completed the solar install at my home and I could not be happier with the results. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in solar. I spent a lot of time researching various PV solar panels, components, and design considerations. When I started contacting local solar install companies I found that almost all provided little or no choice on components, panels, and other add-ons; I felt my time was wasted researching and I would not be able to get exactly what I wanted. When Rob from Sky NRG Solar reached out to me he had a much different tone, he was excited to deliver the system that I envisioned and provide a solution that would exceed our expectations and meet our energy goals.
Sky NRG Solar clearly separated themselves from competitors by the following:
1. Allowing solar panel choice which was very important because warranties differ between manufacturers.
2. Providing inside wiring of conduit rather than having metal conduit exposed along a roofline and down the side of the home; and the resulting look is worth it.
3. My installation also included a consumption meter, no other vendor offered this. Without the consumption meter you are only seeing a third of the picture, you only see how much solar you a producing; however, with the consumption meter I can see how much I am self-consuming from solar, how much I am using from the power company, and most importantly when my utilization goes up. This truly gives a full energy picture within your home and makes you very aware of the energy you produce and consume on a regular basis.
4. Throughout the entire experience they treated every aspect of the design and install as if it were their own home. The placement of components like the inverter were all strategic, ultimately minimizing costs for improvements in the future and allowing us to quickly add additional components (like a whole home battery or electric vehicle charger) for when we are ready without having to relocate any existing components.
5. Finally, Rob and his team have a genuine passion for solar energy and it is displayed by the work they do and the finished product.
After the first visit Rob was able to provide a detailed quote with sizing, pricing, and component selection. Unlike other vendors I corresponded with he was quickly able to provide component specification sheets that provided all the details needed for the system that was to be installed, this even included the rail color and hardware. We went through some iterations and changes in the quote and finally decided on a different panel type than originally planned, he was able to price quickly and update the quote.
Rob provided all the information necessary for all HOA approval docs, he took care of all the county permit applications and design documents, and the coordination with the power company for our net meter install. I simply had to post the permit on our front door. The detail included in the documentation was second to none. Once the HOA approval was done and the permits were ready he was able to coordinate the delivery of the panels and components to our home with us. Shortly after the delivery his team got to work installing; they worked long and hard to get the install completed as quickly as they did. Most importantly their entire team treated our home like it was their own home; very respectful and clean. The result was visually attractive, functional from day one, and insightful regarding our power production and consumption.... read more

We reached out to eight companies for our project. We received quotes from all of them except one (who insisted that my wife and I both be present to suffer through their two hour sales pitch).
I asked a lot of questions and proposed all sorts of ideas to each of the vendors. Some of the ideas were legitimate and some were completely crazy. Only one vendor advised me against doing my crazy ideas – Trent Taliaferro said, “I’d love to sell you a bigger system but there is no way you will get your money out of it. It just doesn’t make sense to do that.” All the other venders were going to sell me things they knew I did not need. That is why I selected Trent/Teakwood.
They were not the cheapest but they were below the average of the rest. Nearly a year later, I am still very pleased with their service and quality. Here is our system: https://enlighten.enphaseenergy.com/pv/public_systems/ZLjA1119551/overview?preview=1... read more
