Renewable energy retailer Green Mountain Energy has introduced a three-step rooftop solar plan in its Texas markets. Through the new plan, homeowners can get a rooftop solar array through a Green Mountain Power-approved installer, and enroll in the energy company’s Renewables Rewards rebate program, which provides an average rebate of $3,016, as well as in its SolarSPARC rewards programs.
The multi-pronged program allows homeowners to get financing for a solar rooftop with little to no up-front costs, get a rebate for installing solar as well as get credited for energy they put back on the grid at the rates it charges for those who subscribe to its Renewable Rewards program for green energy. Through the SolarSPARC rewards program it also credits the homeowners for the energy credits their solar installation produces over time. The energy retailer is calling it the first program of its kind for Texas.
“The best way to maximize the overall positive impact of going solar on the environment and your wallet is to consider all of the various components of a solar solution,” said Mark Parsons, general manager of Green Mountain Energy. “We’re providing a unique combination of offerings for Texans who are interested in all the benefits that solar energy has to offer.”
Though the SolarSPARC program, Green Mountain will grant solar homes credits that grow over time. At the same it will invest in new project development and energy efficiency programs designed to make solar more affordable in Texas. Through Renewable Rewards program Green Mountain will supplement the customer’s energy use with 100 percent wind energy.
Although solar is not widespread throughout Texas, flexible financing options and more development in the state have emerged as prices have decreased over the past five years. As of 2016, Texas had almost 1,215 megawatts of installed solar and the price has declined a total 64 percent since 2011, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association.Tweet
