Throughout April Meritage Homes is offering SunPower photovoltaic arrays to purchasers of yet to be built homes in certain of its California communities—for free. The companies announced the partnership today (April 10) under which they’re offering the solar arrays as part of their earth month celebrations.
Meritage homes CEO Steven Hilton said that Meritage Homes include a number of energy efficient features including spray foam insulation, double low-e windows, variable drive HVAC, LED lighting, home energy monitoring and control, which will include online monitoring of the SunPower arrays. The homes also meet ENERGY STAR, Indoor airPLUS and WaterSense standards set by the EPA. "We believe the addition of SunPower solar power systems will make the best homes even better.”
Homes purchased under the offer will include a 1.4-kilowatt SunPower solar power system at no cost to the future homeowners. Homebuyers can also choose to upgrade the size of the array at an additional cost. SunPower and Meritage Homes are using the offering to kick off their nationwide joint effort to make sure all new Meritage homes are solar-ready and energy efficient. The companies said the offer will extend through the end of April.
"Meritage Homes is setting new standards of excellence for energy-efficient homes, and the addition of well-designed, cost-effective solar power systems helps achieve even greater energy cost savings while enhancing the quality of life for our customers," Hilton said.
"Increasingly, homebuyers understand the return on investment that a high quality, energy efficient, solar-powered new home delivers," said SunPower CEO Tom Werner. "We're very proud to partner with Meritage Homes, and to participate in this extraordinary offer to California homebuyers.” SunPower also has the some of the most efficient silicon PV modules available to homebuyers today.
"By partnering with SunPower, the industry's most experienced provider of solar technology to new home communities, we can provide homebuyers the most reliable and efficient solar technology available, enabling customers to create value the moment they take ownership of their new Meritage home,” Hilton said.
Increasingly home builders like Meritage Homes are including solar in some of their projects and, if not, are making them solar ready. Other home builders like Colorado’s New Town Builders are also building new homes with solar included and SunPower has partnered with other homebuilders including KB Home, Richmond American Homes, Lennar and Pulte, to install solar on new homes.Tweet
