SolarMart has opened its first retail solar and energy efficiency store for home and business owners in Denver. The SolarMart is part of solar contractor Colorado Energy Experts and the company announced the new store on April 23.
SolarMart isn’t the first to open up a solar retail showroom. Stellar Solar, for instance, opened up a solar panel showroom next to San Diego Gas &Electric’s Energy Innovation Center a couple years ago. But it’s likely the first one in Colorado. Likewise USA Solar Store has a network of independently branded stores in states across the nation. It’s likely more will pop up in the future, too.
“The cost of solar has dropped so much it can go retail,” the company said. As such, to capitalize on the lower costs of solar, Colorado Energy Experts opened a 9,000 square foot showroom and warehouse that allows people to come in and learn more about solar power options for their homes and businesses.
"It isn't just solar, we combine energy efficiency with solar photovoltaic and thermal systems,” explained Mark Simmons, CEO of Colorado Energy Experts. Simmons has nearly a decade of experience in the solar industry and has sold $40 million of solar systems to the residential, municipal, industrial and commercial markets, domestically and internationally in Germany and Columbia. He currently owns solar installer companies in Colorado, Hawaii and Colombia.
"We no longer need a local incentive program for solar,” Simmons contended. “We don't even need the utility. It is true energy independence, home by home, business by business. We know we can show you a better option than just paying your utility whatever they want to charge you."
The new solar market will offer zero-down loans through its partner Community Financial Credit Union. The company said the loans typically cost less in payments over a 10-year term than the combined incentives and savings customers would get if they bought a system outright.
SolarMart’s services go beyond just solar however. "We can do a complete home energy makeover, and wrap it into one loan that pays for itself,” said SolarMart Vice President Tony Forero.
The showroom showcases high efficiency windows, energy controllers, energy audits and insulation, solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, and electric vehicle (EV) chargers. In addition to the showroom, the company also has a real estate agent who can explain how best to use the investments in energy efficiency and solar power to increase a home’s value.Tweet
