We went with New England Clean Energy for a rooftop solar panel installation in Ayer, MA. It's been 7 months since installation, have generated more electricity than we've used by a nice margin, and haven't had an electric bill since they were turned on. We have been making a small profit since the energy credits and no electric bill more than cover the loan. With the price of electricity going way up this winter in Mass, we'll be making a much larger profit.
Everyone at New England Clean Energy (NECE) was very professional and knowledgeable, and their sales team was low pressure. Other competing companies that came to our door, played the high-pressure sales game with secret "incentives" if you sign today!! None of that with NECE, and their price ended up lower than the post-incentive price from the competitors we talked to.
Installation was fast and the work well done, however we had a problem with the Inverters where they would turn off due to a false arc fault detection. This was a manufacturing defect in the inverter. NECE handled the problem, explained what was going on, kept us fully informed, and got us a full reimbursement from the inverter manufacturer for the down time. You couldn't ask for better service.
This was a situation that could have been very difficult for a homeowner: one companies product (inverter) had a problem working with another companies product (solar panel), with both products installed by a third company (New England Clean Energy). In this case, the inverters worked with other solar panels, and the solar panels worked with other inverters... New England Clean Energy worked directly with the inverter company, got the problem resolved, and got us the reimbursement. In the end, we actually made a nice profit since the reimbursement was very generous. The inverters were fixed, and have worked flawlessly since.
