I had to cancel my contract just prior to installation, but I was happy with Renu's ownership of an honest mistake and their professionalism that followed. My initial contact at Renu believed that I was entitled to both a federal tax credit and an SC tax credit since I worked in SC and filed an SC income tax return. However, my home is in NC. The sales rep also presented proposals with the same tax credits in mind, and I signed a contract based on those assumptions. Unfortunately, on closer examination of the SC eligibility rules, we realized that the location of the installation must also be in SC. I was pleasantly relieved that Renu readily acknowledged their error and reimbursed the finance company completely. They were very professional throughout the process. My recommendation to anyone considering solar power would be to not rely entirely on the understanding of solar companies for tax credits and/or rebates. Although they have significant familiarity with the available credits/rebates, they are not always 100% accurate.
