Great Solar but holes in roof

If I was just rating the solar energy system I would give them a 5 star rating. But they left the roof in such bad shape I have to give them 2 stars.

After they finished the project I went into the attic to see if there were holes in the roof. Sure enough there were two beams of light coming in from where they installed the system. This meant they left two holes in my roof that would lead to a leaky roof. So I called them up to complain. They came out promptly and agreed they put holes in the roof. Within a few days someone was there to fix the holes. He finished and told me he inspected the roof and found one hole and fixed it. I knew there were at least two holes so invited him to my attic to look for himself. He saw the other hole and went on the roof to fix it. He let me know he fixed the second hole and the roof is good now. Then he left and I went back to the attic to find the light was still coming through. He had fixed a second hole that was not bad enough to let light into the attic. I called and he came back the next day to fix. This time he found 3 more holes. Two caused by them and a staple hole that was there before. He fixed all 3 holes and said the roof was sound. We asked for a supervisor to come out and inspect the work and he said the repair work was done properly. There were several other less severe issues with the roof that we are waiting to be dealt with. I have had the system for a month but was out of town so just reported the other issues.

So even though the solar system works fine and will pay for itself in 10-12 years I would not have done this if I knew it meant my roof would be damaged.

As a side note, PetersenDean sells a 3000 Watt system. This is what the competitors would call a 2400 Watt system. The 3000 Watt number is what the system would produce in a lab simulating the sunlight on the equator when the sun is directly above.

Also, the workers talk about how PetersenDean will do all the paperwork for the rebates. They fail to mention that PetersenDean keeps all the rebates for themselves (except the federal tax rebate) That fact changed my ROI (return on investment) to 12 years from 10.

I would like to add a follow up to my review. Petersen Dean Roofing did seem to take my complaints very seriously and worked very hard to resolve the issues. They also said they took precautions to prevent a reoccurrence of my issues.

I could recommend them others. I would bump them up to 4 stars because of their eagerness to resolve issues.
