YSG Solar

My story begins like this. I started shopping for solar companies because, like most other solar owners, I felt that I was contributing to destroying our planet by using traditional methods of energy production, such as fossil fuels. I wanted to harness the natural elements that our planet has in hopes that I could help preserve our planet for future generations. Going solar wouldn't really help me save money in the short term, so it wasn't about that at all.
My colleagues referred me to some companies, such as Sungevity, but I found out that the solar industry is a scary place and can be pretty cutthroat. Sungevity went out of business before I could install with them. On I went, to find an affordable, yet reputable company for myself. I tried using a solar marketplace website, but it was a hit or miss just to get a quote. Some quotes were ridiculously overpriced. Other companies didn't even respond to my follow up requests. I was left scratching my head. Where would I go next on my hunt? I ended up turning to New York State's own energy website (guess where I live?). I not only live in New York State, but I live in Brooklyn, NY. New York State's website was where I found YSG and some others. YSG wasn't the only company that contacted me back, but I liked the price and I liked the thorough and honest advice from Steve. Of course, I googled them. Of course, reviews weren't perfect, but overall they seemed pretty good. I decided to pursue it with Steve. YSG is a small local company, but I believe that they have a good business model and are sustainable. It is important to find a sustainable company, because when it comes to warranty on your installation, you need someone who will be around. Steve really has the best bedside manners. Although he is one of the senior guys there (I'm guessing), he takes the time to explain things to you in depth. FYI, 2018 is the last year to fully maximize your solar rebates. The federal incentive will drop starting next year and is going to be phased out yearly. In NYC, there are property tax abatements and 2018 is also the last year to qualify for them. In addition, there are incentives to the installers, and NYC seems like one of the last battlegrounds to get that incentive. Those incentives are based on a first come, first serve basis.
In NYC, there is a lot of red tape to get around. YSG is not only approved to install on flat roofs (mine is flat), but they also know how to navigate all the red tape to get the installation done as quick as possible. My installation took 2 months, which I consider fairly quick. I also referred my brother who lives in Westchester (Peekskill, NY). He installed at the same time as I, and YSG knew how to navigate their red tape as well (and that was worse). The only problems we had actually, were with Con Ed. One piece of advice: Make sure your new system is always producing and doesn't have errors. I had errors that were caused by Con Ed resetting their meter, and I didn't know it would screw up my production numbers.
