Auric Energy (formerly Auric Solar and Solaroo Energy)

I checked out 3 different solar companies before I went with Solaroo. The salesman for Solaroo was friendly and seemed very knowledgeable and we felt comfortable with the information he was giving us. The other two companies we looked at seemed like they were giving us a big sales job and didn't provide as much detail with there bid. So we went with Solaroo and committed the first week in October. After we committed, Solaroo passed us on from the salesman to our communications guy so that if anything came up we could contact him instead of our salesman. We had a couple of issues with appointments being scheduled and then not showing up and there wasn't any communication involved with the late or missed appointments until well after the appointment was missed. I was constantly trying to get in touch to find out what was going on and our communications guy was very slow to respond or wouldn't respond until we contacted our salesman who would then get a hold of the communications guy. This was frustrating especially because I would take off of work so I could meet with them. Ultimately, a new person started contacting us and she was much more responsive than the first guy.

They finally got the install scheduled and by the end of December they finished the install. The install team was very good and they were friendly and seemed to know what they were doing. The panels look really good on our house. The tech that came out to set up and commission our system was also very friendly and was easy to work with when we had questions that needed answered.

One really good thing about Solaroo was that they ultimately came through with what they promised. We had an incentive that was added to our bid to get us to commit and later when we changed our mind on that incentive, Solaroo gave us more options to choose from and delivered on what was promised. They also came through when the salesman unintentionally misrepresented the degradation of the panels that he sold us on. Solaroo ended up adding another panel at no cost so that it equaled what we were told by the salesman.

One issue to note for potential Solar customers, is the total output calculated by the salesman. When we were shown the output calculations of our system by the salesman and used those calculations to figure our payback numbers, it was calculated as if our system would produce at 100%. All three companies that we met with used the same calculation so we didn't know any different as to why that is not accurate. After we committed to Solaroo, we happened to be discussing solar with some friends that we just found out that they also had solar installed. They let us know that the company they went with said the real output of your system is around 15% less than the rated output, due to loss in heat, electrical wiring and other things. Since we have had our solar turned on the last three months, we have kept very close track on production and sure enough, our system is producing about 13% lower than the calculations of our salesman. This does effect the pay back calculation we did when deciding whether or not to do Solar and adds another two years to our payback. I still think we would have gone with Solar with the adjusted calculations but it is important to have accurate information when trying to make a decision. I don't believe this was miscalculated purposely by the salesman, but it is something that a solar company should be aware of and should be calculated more accurately.

To sum it up, I thought the company was good. Communication was lacking at times and the solar output calculations should be more accurately represented, but they did a good job and they really made an effort to do what was promised and that was important to me.
