American Solar Direct (out of business)

I selected American Solar Direct to install my solar system. Last month was my one-year anniversary and I wanted to wait before positing a review.

I met with a variety of solar companies before selecting American Solar. So why did I select American Solar and why would I strongly recommend them:

(1) I connected with the company and my consultant. I truly believe that the consultant was my advocate, trying to get the best product, system and financing solution for me - not just making the sale.

(2) Loan product & pricing - I am passionate about solar and energy independence. After reviewing PPA and leases, I did not see the logic of having a third party own my system on my roof if I can equate energy independence with energy ownership. Better yet was that I could own my system through a zero down loan at the same or better cost of a lease/PPA.

(3) Installation team - I have built two homes in the last 15 years and have a good perspective of the construction trade. I would rank American Solar's installation team as Tier 1. Quality and customer service were outstanding. Truthfully I developed even a closer relationship with the installation team than my sales consultant in the process.

(4) Savings - Why did I wait a year to write a review? I wanted to make sure the savings was real. My historical SDGE bill varied between $450-$700/month and averaged around $500. My fixed monthly loan + average monthly SDGE cost for last 12 months was approximately $300. Maybe I am just lucky - I had heard about the potential of 20-40% savings but we truly averaged a 40% savings during the last 12 months! That is amazing to me.
