Kenergy Solar

It is really difficult for me to know how Kenergy stacks up against their competition and for that reason -- along with the fact that on balance I am glad that I installed solar PV -- I am reluctant to give them a negative recommendation. (Consider this a Recommend with reservations.) That said, I note three significant defects. First, they overestimated by 10% the amount of electricity the panels would produce. That, obviously, has a significant impact on how long it takes for the system to pay for itself. Second, 4 of 32 panels were placed in a position where they are partially shaded by our eaves, significantly reducing their output. This was overlooked in the design phase and I think the system would have been reconfigured had it been taken into account. (This accounts for some but not all of the overestimated production mentioned earlier.) Third, Kenergy is not sufficient responsive with respect to problems with the system, and does a poor job with communications. I get the strong sense that their primary emphasis is with installing new systems and that maintaining existing systems is given less of a priority. Phone calls and emails are frequently not returned, let alone promptly. (I am really giving them the benefit of the doubt not rating them as "inferior" on the "promptness" criterion.) I also have to say that I have had enough problems with my Solar Edge inverters that I would certainly consider a different manufacturer for that vital piece of a solar system.

Weighing against these negatives is the fact that you get a fairly wide range of equipment to choose from and I think that they try to do the job right. Putting aside delays (some within their control, others that were not), the installation process was painless. They did a partial correction of the shaded panels for no charge and gave me $500 refund for this and some other headaches. It is also the kind of small, local business that I try to support.
