Firstly, no solar contractors can pay to get listed at the top of our search results.
The order of our list of best solar installers is displayed based on a formula balancing reviews number and reviews score only from the last two years. If a company has a lot of reviews and a higher average reviews score, but is below another company in the list, it is because most of their reviews are old and the company above them has more reviews at a better average reviews score in the last two years (even if overall they have fewer reviews or a lower all time average reviews score).
We show all solar energy contractors that have received reviews of solar panel installation work they have done in Glenford even if they don't have an office in Glenford. There are a lot of renewable energy companies in the solar industry in the United States that service areas in which they don't have offices via contract installation teams. Some of these companies receive a lot of complaints (see the big national installers reviews like Vivint Solar, Sunrun and Solar City), but others have really good reviews and so we don't exclude them from our top solar companies lists. They often bring price competition to smaller cities where the local solar companies are so busy they need to put their prices up. It is up to you how much weight you put on a local office when choosing between solar companies.

I contracted with YSG to install a 12kw system on my home in Westchester county, NY. Every step of the transaction was exceptionally difficult, from the quoting process, to the initial inspection, to the installation, and also the paperwork. I had so many issues that I really don't have the time (or space) to write them out here, but here is a list. I'll start with things that went well, then move on to the issues.Pros: -All-in, the overall price was competitive (though not the lowest) compared to competing quotes.-I really liked that they gave price quotes without coming to the house; I hate losing so much time at work trying to meet with all the different contractors to get quotes.-My salesman truly did seem to care about my project, though due to the structure of YSG, he was not able to deliver on many of his promises since most were out of his hands.-The installation looks nice on my roof.-The low-interest financing is nice, though it does raise the cost of the installation by over $1,000 (not a complaint- you're still better off financing the additional principal and letting your money work in the marketCons:-Price changes: when I initially signed the contract, I was quoted a price. I said specifically that I want my roof vents and attic fan relocated to accomodate the installation, and was told "yes, we'll do that" (all other companies included this in the quoted price too). The roofer came by and inspected the roof, and I didn't hear anything. Then their guy came to put the rails on the roof and mount a few solar panels. Great. Later that day, I receive a call indicating that the price would increase by $1,500 due to the roof modifications. This was never communicated before work began, and then I was stuck- if I backed out, they would charge me for the work already performed. I raised a stink and they offered me a $300 rebate. I'm not happy about it, but that's where we landed. This is really the main issue with my entire project- if not for this, I probably would overlook everything else. They knew about this work from day 1, and could have scheduled the roof inspection prior to the initial installation; I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or was just one of their many miscommunications, but it left a very sour taste in my mouth.-Miscommunications: holy moly, SO many miscommunications. When you deal with YSG, you're dealing with a team of 6, and it's like a huge game of telephone. The installers never came when the salesman said they would, and none of my installation requests were passed from the salesman ultimately down to the installers. Thankfully one of the installers gave me his number so I was able to text him directly to find out when he was coming, but this unfortunately highlighted another issue.-Installers: the installers do NOT work for YSG. As such, your project can be prioritized behind someone else's. My installer said he would finish the job on 12/31/18 so that I could have my loan docs and tax deductions in the 2018 tax year, and on 12/31/18, he just plain didn't show up. He said he would be there at 3 (which, BTW, wouldn't have been early enough to finish, given how long it ultimately took him), but at 3:30 I called him and he said "oh I had another project today and I'm not coming". I raised another stink and got him to come around 6; he did a couple hours work and left. He came back on 1/1 but didn't finish, then finally finished on 1/2. So, it's now 2019 and I can't get the federal or state incentives for about 14 months. Great. They do give you a 12 month zero interest loan on the incentives so that takes away some, but not all, of the pain.-Promises: when I started the project, it was November and I said I would only do the project if they could get it done by year end so that I could get the tax benefit in ~March '19 instead of March '20. I was told "oh yeah, definitely". They got the permits very quickly, which was great. The installation was scheduled to take 3 days- 1 day of prep work/putting up panels that weren't blocked by the roof vents, 1 day of roofing, and 1 day of finish work. Day 1, the installers showed up and mounted racks on the roof and put a few panels up. They only stayed 4 or 5 hours and said that they were blocked from doing anything else by the roof vents (weird, because there was a ton of interior electrical pre-work that could have been done aside from connecting to the panels). The roofers came a couple hours later than promised but ultimately finished the work and did a good job. Then the headaches started. I just could NOT get the guys to come out and finish the job. I made 8 days available to them between when the roof work was completed and the end of the year, and they only came on 12/31. Granted, weather blocked 2 of those days, but not really- there was still 6 hours of interior electrical work to do that they ultimately ended up doing at night on other days. So the guys finally come on 12/31 and get the rest of the panels up, saying "the other guy will come at 3 to do electrical". He didn't. I made a stink and he came for 2 hours at night and left. Ultimately, the project was completed across two more days.-Inverter sizing: the company tried to cheap out on the inverter and give me a 10kw inverter for my 12kw array. This only saves them money, as the inverter manufacturer proudly displays the efficiency of their inverters showing that between these two inverters, both hit peak efficiency starting at 2kw and stay there for the rest of the relevant range. This means if you put, for example, 6kw into a 10kw inverter, you get the same power into the grid as if you put 6kw into a 12kw inverter. But, on days where the array generates over 10kw, you LOSE power (and money) in a 10kw inverter but not in a 12kw inverter. They tried to show me an article based on DC/AC ratios of micro inverters (I have a string inverter) where the inverters in question have different efficiency curves. It took 2 emails, 4 calls, and ultimately I had to raise my voice on a call to squeeze an 11.4kw inverter out of them. So, as you can tell from my novel, it was NOT an easy transaction to say the least. Save yourself the headache and work with a smaller local company where the person you talk to is the person who does the work, and where there are fewer cooks in the kitchen.... read more

RGS assured me that their Year 1 production estimate was conservative (note, the contract provides no recourse for you, so you are relying on their word). During the first year, my system produced approximately 77% of their "conservative" estimate, which will extend my payback period substantially.... read more
