Firstly, no solar contractors can pay to get listed at the top of our search results.
The order of our list of best solar installers is displayed based on a formula balancing reviews number and reviews score only from the last two years. If a company has a lot of reviews and a higher average reviews score, but is below another company in the list, it is because most of their reviews are old and the company above them has more reviews at a better average reviews score in the last two years (even if overall they have fewer reviews or a lower all time average reviews score).
We show all solar energy contractors that have received reviews of solar panel installation work they have done in Woodland Hills even if they don't have an office in Woodland Hills. There are a lot of renewable energy companies in the solar industry in the United States that service areas in which they don't have offices via contract installation teams. Some of these companies receive a lot of complaints (see the big national installers reviews like Vivint Solar, Sunrun and Solar City), but others have really good reviews and so we don't exclude them from our top solar companies lists. They often bring price competition to smaller cities where the local solar companies are so busy they need to put their prices up. It is up to you how much weight you put on a local office when choosing between solar companies.

THEY OFFERED ME $1,000 AS HUSH-MONEY:They didn't want me to tell of my awful experience and the only way they would partially make it right (give me $1,000 back) was if I signed a hush agreement. The debased ethics of the owners was on full display - truly despicable. For everything I went though, they offered me a 3% discount - they do not deserve a 97% for the job they did - they were awful to work with. I refused the $1,000, because I want everyone to know who these guys really are. This review only scratches the surface and emphasizes the worst parts.DO NOT trust Semper Solaris. Notice how many of the reviews prove that Semper doesn't make things right when they mess up. I am also a local business owner and if me or my company acted like these guys I'd deserve to go out of business. Integrity is best displayed when things go wrong. THE OWNERS OF SEMPER SOLARIS LACK INTEGRITY. This company cares more about money than they do about people. I contracted with Semper Solaris to put 20 panels on my roof. Here are some of the ways that they failed.MY PROJECT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE 3 MONTHS, BUT TOOK 7 MONTHS:The contract we signed on 6/4/18 said the project would take between 10-12 weeks (less than 3 months) and they just finished on 1/7/19. It is true that there can be delays outside of the control of solar companies, but my project was full of Semper not showing up when they told me they would and of them taking weeks to do the next part of project after all the permits and work orders were approved. This cost us months of additional power, too, because each month they caused delays I didn't get any relief from the solar panels with my power bills. They wouldn't make it right.THEY LEFT MY PROPERTY AND MY NEIGHBOR'S PROPERTY COVERED IN MUD:On a Friday their trenching crew left mud all over my retaining wall, sidewalk, street and my neighbor's driveway (and dirt covered their vehicles, meters and trash barrels). I felt terrible for the mess and spent about an hour cleaning up after them. I brought this to their attention and they did nothing about it, except tell me that they "chewed out those employees." They failed to see how it affects me and only think that I want to get employees in trouble. My neighbor is a 94 year old WWII vet and he made a point to share with me how embarrassed he was of the work ethic of the crew. The owners, Shawn and John, have made millions by marketing to the appeal of supporting veterans and in this case they were a complete embarrassment to the honor of our veterans. Part of the reason I chose to work with them was because of this. The owners' unwillingness to take ownership of their employees' failures is an even greater disgrace to the men and women who have served this country with such honor. Additionally, they used my hose without permission for their trenching and ruined it - this cost me $50 to replace and they did not cover the cost.THEY ENTERED MY HOUSE WITHOUT PERMISSION:One of their employees was supposed to come to my house for an inspection and came 6 days after he was supposed to. I was at work and he called me to say he needed to do an external inspection of the work performed and it would take 5 minutes. My wife was home with the our 4 kids and putting our 1 year old daughter down for a nap. One of their employees talked to my 7 year old through the window and accepted his help to come into my house to get in the attic. THEY NEVER TOLD MY WIFE THEY WERE THERE OR COMING IN. The employee fell through our dining room ceiling and it terrified my wife. She thought someone had broken into the house. The employee is lucky he wasn't shot and my family is fortunate nothing worse happened (beyond being terrified). When I confronted the company about how absolutely unacceptable this is, they said sorry, but they were not willing to admit that it was any "real damage" to us. The anxiety this caused is real and it infuriated me that they didn't think it was a bigger deal.THEY PLACED AN UNLAWFUL LIEN ON MY HOUSE:This isn't even the worst ethical failure, but it is substantial. As we were nearing the end of the project we were having conversations about the financial impact of their failures, but they were not willing to make it right. The owners were not willing to meet with me to discuss it any further. The manager told me that the only way we could continue the conversation was if I had my lawyer contact them. I did that and they placed a lien on my house. A lien can only be filed when a contractor completes the job AND if the client refuses to pay for finished work. THEY HAD NEITHER FINISHED THE WORK NOR HAD I REFUSED TO PAY (they didn't even provide a final invoice). They placed a lien on my house and threatened to file for foreclosure. This is so unethical and proves that they are willing to lie in order to push people around. This wouldn't have gone anywhere, because we paid in full, but they were just being bullies.... read more

I recently had a 10.8kW solar panel installed on my house by NRG Clean Power. While everyone at the company, from sales to installation and post-installation walk-through was great, the 'ace' of the team clearly has been Tiffany Swisa. She not only is warm and friendly, making the necessary communication enjoyable and stress-free, but she has a fantastic grasp of the entire series of steps involved. She, therefore, is able to stay on top of all the steps and coordinate the different activities beginning with the initial site visit, to the engineer's projections, the approvals required, the installer's schedules, the city inspection and the final walk-through. If not for Tiffany, all of this might seem daunting to anyone who has never done it before, but she makes it all occur effortlessly and on time. Even more impressive, she somehow seems to make herself available if any uncertainties occur and is always ready and able to answer any questions that might arise. In this day and age of automation and 'impersonal customer service', having Tiffany available to answer questions, coordinate activities and assure things continue to run smoothly and on-schedule proved to be an unexpected and welcomed advantage to selecting NRG to install our panels. I recommend NRG, and Tiffany, with the greatest enthusiasm and confidence possible.... read more

Sunlife Solar and Roofing was recommended to us by our friends. We were impressed when we met with them and the numbers made sense so we decided to purchase. It took about 4 weeks from start to finish and we were updated along the way which we really appreciated. Our installation team was professional and very nice. A couple of microinverters didn't register on our monitoring so they came back right away to fix them. We were impressed that they caught this and took care of it without us asking. Now we're fully hooked up and on our way to saving money with our new solar system.Thank you Sunlife!... read more

Crown solar is outstanding, better than the maximum stars allowed. When I first decided to go solar, I discovered this is not a mature industry - in fact it's a jungle that reminded me of the aluminum siding salesman of several years ago. Within almost moments of a first call (to Tesla which I mistakenly thought would be the most mature company) my phone began ringing and didn't stop; these companies obviously share prospects and I received at least 50 calls. Most had already Googled my house, taken the screenshot of my roof, and threw quotes at me even though some were on the other side of the continent. Thoroughly confused, but determined, I decided to do due diligence and I accepted about 30 quotes. Only two actually offered to come and visit the location, and only one showed up: Omar, the owner who actually brought a licensed electrician and project engineer along to ensure that the quote would be accurate and that there would be no hidden costs - it was Crown Solar Electric which is located here in Southern California. They were meticulous, inspecting every aspect of my electric facilities including my electric panels, grid feed, and meter. Notwithstanding this, I was at first unsure of them because the quote was almost half of the big companies (after tax credits which they computed correctly) and I wondered where they were cutting costs. So I compared the proposed equipment (the identical panels to those offered by the expensive quotes of the big companies) the conversion process (the same micro-generators, one per panel that the bigger companies offered) the roof guarantee (the industry standard twenty-five years) and the relationship to the LA DWP (which was superior to everyone else's). Still expecting something might well go wrong, I closed my eyes and leapt into the water anyway. They made me feel like a genius. They arrived on the day appointed, finished all the work in one day, with the same project manager (Jeremy) who had originally inspected the house, and assured me the system would be large enough, which was important to me since this is a big 6000 square-foot home. The day after they completed their work I had my customary roofer come and inspect what they had done to my flat roof. As one might expect, he had some quibbles, but notwithstanding the guarantee, Jeremy returned within 48 hours and corrected anything the roofer had noted even though they assured me they were not significant. This alone would've been enough to say that they lived up to their word completely, efficiently, and with courtesy and extreme care. But it got better: as so often happens, the LADWP were slow in changing my meter and attending to their side of the installation. Melissa and Audra handled them completely and at no time did I ever have to contact LADWP or become involved in their bureaucracy. In fact, Crown Solar even offered to cover the cost of my electric bill during a delay occasioned not by their work but LA DWP scheduling. As soon as the system was up and connected to the grid, CS took care of connecting me to a monitoring service which provides me daily reports on the condition of my panels and the amount of power they produce. In this day and age when old-fashioned service is so hard to come by, and too many suppliers are happy to collect the last check and consider their commitment done, Crown Solar is a reminder of how customer service and job commitment should be. I had no prior knowledge of the company and no one recommended them to me - I hired them strictly on the basis of my own due diligence and comparing some 30-odd quotes. This is an outstanding company and I could not be more delighted with their commitment and effort. I give them six stars out of five. If anyone reading this has any doubts that this is a totally unsolicited reference, I have given Crown Solar permission to put them in contact with me directly.if you're thinking about solar, be very careful of this wild West industry. But Crown and its people are truly outstanding.... read more

I shopped solar pretty rigorously and LA Solar was able to deliver on pricing and they offer the best warranties. Joe Hawley, the salesman, has been in the industry for over a decade and was able to educate me and answer all of the questions that I had. I ended up going with the Panasonic 330 panels, they cost more, but you don''t need as many and they are a much better product. As far as installation, the roofing foreman was James, the solar electrician was Vahag and the main panel upgrade electrician was Joseph. They all did a great job leaving my house clean and in good shape when they left. The whole process was quick and easy.I''m very happy with my decision to work with LA Solar. They''re a big company, but not big enough to treat you like the big corporate solar companies treat you.... read more
