This farm was in the middle of transforming their property, and they wanted to make a statement. The owners were turning the 120-year-old property into a new model for agriculture in the agritourism movement, also known as a “farm-stay.†Their goals was to make the farm as self-sufficient as possible while introducing visitors to the concept of local agriculture. A&R Solar was tasked with developing a solar energy solution that would offset a target amount of electricity usage while adding to the aesthetics of the farm. The location for the array was a new barn and carport constructed in an old timber style and covered with an architectural rusted corrugated roof. We were able to mount 41 SunPower panels on the roof and took advantage of the Aurora inverter’s dual MPPT feature to maximize production. In addition, the clean blue solar cells, signature to Sunpower, provided a brilliant contrast with the red rusted roof. Owners of the farm are proud of the array both for its craftsmanship and the large amount of clean energy it will provide through the years. The project was the winner of SunPower 2012 “Intelegant Award for Excellence.†Other highlights: Provides power for two electric farm vehicles Runs LED lights and heats water in main house Surplus energy is banked for a financial credit
