Race to Remember (RTR), a NASCAR team, is partnering with Momentum Solar and its “Give Back” program to benefit the USO of Metropolitan New York (USOMNY) throughout the 2017 racing season. The partnership will launch at this year’s New York Auto Show where RTR will unveil its car and accept donations to support military personnel as they re-enter civilian life and the workforce. Momentum also will donate $500 to USOMNY for every solar installation it completes as a result of the event and has committed to triple the number of veterans it employs during 2017.
NASCAR is no stranger to solar and continues to promote the clean energy by incorporating photovoltaic technology at its events and facilities. In fact, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway boasts the largest solar installation at a sporting center, a 9-megawatt solar farm on 68 acres of unused land adjacent to the famous track. It’s also used mobile solar devices at the Charlotte Motor Speedway including solar generators, battery systems and solar light towers, during a race in May 2016.
However, the new partnership with between Momentum adds a different element with advertising on the vehicle and the inclusion of veterans. Rich Bodmer will drive the car, # 22, for RTR. The number also will raise awareness of veteran suicides as that’s unfortunately the amount of military veterans who commit suicide every day in the US.
“I’m now working with Momentum to not only help educate homeowners and business owners on the benefits of solar energy, but to bring awareness to veterans that are struggling,” said Bodmer. “We look forward to networking at the New York Auto Show, help raise as many donations as we can, and recruit veterans who are looking to reenter the workforce.”
“My close relationship with the service comes initially from my upbringing—my father has been in the Air Force for 21 years,” said Momentum Solar CEO Arthur Souritzidis. “We honor these individuals every day, and working with Rich Bodmer and his NASCAR race team is a way to show our appreciation. We understand the importance of the USOMNY’s mission to keep service members connected to family, home and country throughout their service to the nation. We look forward to the opportunity to continue working with the USOMNY going forward.”Tweet
