Today Colorado’s Ascent Solar and Navarre, a business unit of WYNIT Distribution announced a new distribution agreement for Ascent Solar, under which its EnerPlex line of products will see expanded distribution across North America. The agreement will help the company’s line of thin-film photovoltaics and charging devices gain traction in U.S. and Canadian retail stores.
“EnerPlex provides a truly unique set of products for consumers, ones which we feel fill a very specific need which currently is not met by other products in the market. We believe EnerPlex can quickly become a leader in the consumer portable power space,” said Ward Thomas, Executive Vice President, Navarre Division. The new partnership will allow EnerPlex to more directly compete with companies like Goal Zero, which was recently purchased by NRG Energy.
WYNIT has a history of bringing notable products to wider markets. Among its clients are SanDisk, TomTom, Olympus, Canon, fitbit and more. The move comes are people are increasingly looking to portable solar chargers as a means to keep their smartphones, tablets and electronic devices charged up on the go and in the great outdoors, two things EnerPlex is focussed on with its CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, arsenide) technology.
The technology allows the company to make thin-flexible solar cells. The cells can be mounted in such a way that they can mounted on a device that be rolled up or folded. Conventional silicon PV cells and devices aren’t flexible and are usually thicker and heavier than the CIGS PV cells.
"The response to our EnerPlex products in 2014 has been overwhelmingly positive, and our partnership with Navarre will allow us access to an even wider range of retailers and consumers,” said EnerPlex General Manager Richard Hashim. “EnerPlex will certainly benefit from their experience and knowledge of the consumer marketplace, and will leverage this knowledge to continue our growth.”
Currently EnerPlex is making a number of product lines. Among them are its Surfr line of solar and battery integrated smartphone cases. Kickr is EnerPlex’s line of portable solar chargers that can charge usb devices. Using similarly sized solar panels, it’s integrated the PV devices into its Packr line of solar backpacks. It’s also launched its Jumpr line batteries to compliment the Sufr and Packr series.Tweet
