Great Experience

I was having trouble finding a Solar company to come and look at a problem I had with my existing solar system, and I wanted to expand the existing system. The company that installed the original system apparently went of business. I started calling companies, and the first 4 said they more work than they could handle, and were not taking on any customers with existing systems. I finally got to Solar Side UP. Michael DeRosia helped me trouble shoot the system over the phone. Then they set up a visit for the expansion and fit me into their busy schedule. Great experience. I highly recommend Solar Side Up. Geoff the installer came out and did a great job, very professional and knowledgeable. I cannot say enough good about them.

Horrible customer service.

I signed up with Solar Side Up (SSU) in March after being assured the system would be turned on for the costly summer months. Despite some weeks-long radio silence after I signed the contract and a few small delays, the system was installed two months later at the end of May. Unfortunately, SSU then botched the handoff to Xcel leading to a further 2.5 month delay with my system offline until early August. This delay resulted in me covering 100% of June and July's electricity bills (~$350) and was in no way my fault. Understanding that this was probably a relatively common occurrence and the amount requested was less than 2% of the amount I paid, I assumed SSU would happily compensate me for the missed timelines to make things right. Unfortunately, SSU accepted none of the responsibility and told me simply that this kind of thing "can happen." If you want a company that values their customers, look elsewhere.

Reply from Jake: Jake: When we can, let's talk. I see that you are frustrated. We can resolve this issue and let people know the good, bad, and ugly about the interconnection agreement process with Xcel Energy that all solar companies and solar customers go through. As discussed, we submitted the Xcel Energy forms and payment appropriately and timely as we do with all our Xcel Interconnection applications. Xcel Energy can and does frequently change the submission requirements; often, the outdated software doesn't handle the latest needs, and the way they have required payment has changed over the years. We keep a paper trail record of all interactions with Xcel Energy. And, there is an excellent reason why. We have a perfect account of what was submitted and when which demonstrates that we followed the strict standards and submission policies for Xcel Energy. Unfortunately, every application we offer is subjected to its process, software and bureaucracy. In all fairness, there should be exact standards for adding small generation power onto a shared utility grid. Xcel Energy is granting permission to operate on their utility grid. It is a very specified and grueling submission process that requires almost perfection from the applicant. It is an application process an ordinary customer can not get through. It requires licensing, certifications, and it requires a master electrician with solar experience to prepare the documentation for their technical Interconnection review. We get through this process and explain to homeowners that Xcel Energy is the long pole of our 60 to 90 day start to finish the process. It can be 120 days with Xcel Energy. Right now, Xcel Energy, the largest utility by far in Colorado, is receiving more applications than they can process with new state requirements to implement within that 60 to 90 window, and it happens that customers are delayed or pushed out. The best any solar company can do is inform the customer that this is the process for better or worse, and we do our best to get through it. Our message for new customers is to know that during this COVID-19 pandemic, everything is taking longer and is becoming more time-intensive and more expensive. Be patient. ~Michael

No support for warranty claims.

The company will not stand behind their work. When you have a warranty issue they will not help. They are installers -that's where the big $ is. Warranty work is paid by the manufacturer and requires paperwork from the installation company.

Reply from Nate A.: Nate - We have done a review of all our customers in your zip code and we have no record of a Nate with your zip code. It doesn't appear that we did the installation for your home. If you are not getting assistance from your solar company that was contracted to install your solar, you can always contact an installer near you. There is a cost to rolling a truck and providing resources to a homeowner to perform work. Some manufacturers provide programs to offset this cost of labor, but some don't. Equipment is typically replaced without charge, but there is a service cost to perform the service work. We can help, but there is a service charge to perform work.

Superb experience with our solar system installation!

01/20/20 Our solar system was installed in December, 2019 (it took less than two days!). We chose SolarSideUp (SSU) for several reasons: -They were able to get our system in before the end of the year which means we’ll earn the 30% tax credit. -They provided a comprehensive bid (very competitive with the other companies we looked in to), and spent ample time educating us about options. -They took extra care to look at our roof and supporting structure/s, (our home is a 1954 brick ranch), and were able to come up with a design whereby we didn’t have to undertake costly improvements in order to accommodate the weight of the panels. -Their design maximizes the energy production by using panels on both the front and back of our roof. It is state-of-the-art and can be expanded/upgraded if desired on down the road; -The Enphase Energy Enlighten monitoring system is superb (allows SolarSideUp and us to check on our system’s functioning at any time). We are exceptionally pleased with our system’s output even in the dead of winter! -SSU has been very responsive to our questions and worked diligently to get Enphase up and running (due to our home’s location and WIFI capabilities/issues, we had to add in boosters - Xfinity 3 XFI pods). -SSU came highly recommended to us by friends and industry experts. They’ve done a superb job! So, we highly recommend them to anyone looking to install solar and take advantage of the tax credits, do the right thing for our environment, and enjoy years of savings on their energy bills.

Quality Install and Excellent Support

My wife and I are very pleased with the system Solar Side Up installed at our home this month. We have a 29 panel system with a capacity of about 9 kW, and each day this month we have produced between 40 and 53 kWh. We learned of Solar Side Up through EnergySage and chose the company because of their experience, customer support, and use of quality components. Michael and Geoff sized the system to meet our power needs and budget while educating us on our options for solar configurations and components. Geoff did a fantastic job designing the system to maximize solar exposure while also paying attention to its aesthetic appearance. We were concerned about how the panels would look, but we were pleasantly surprised at the results! More importantly, Geoff was very attentive to detail and took great pains to ensure that our system was installed properly. He discovered problems with our existing electrical meter and panel, and he did extensive work at a very competitive price to reconfigure our panel to meet code as well as the power requirements of the new solar system. Solar Side Up made the application and installation process easy, coordinating utility company and the city for required inspections and filing all required paperwork for our energy credits. We now enjoy sunny Colorado days even more, and we are confident knowing that Solar Side Up is monitoring our system to ensure it is continuing to work normally.

WORTH IT - Awesome Solar Install Experience

We had a phenomenal experience with Solar Side Up. We worked with Michael DeRosia and the entire process was incredibly smooth and efficient. Everything from the initial meeting and quick house review to getting detailed designs of the recommended panel setup. Once we were ready to move forward they got us scheduled and the team showed up on time for the install and everyone was friendly and professional. The install was completed on schedule and the Xcel Energy meter was completed the very next week! So we were able to turn on our solar very quickly and now we enjoy watching the daily detailed analysis of how much energy we are producing from clean solar energy. We had such an amazing experience with Michael and Jeff from Solar Side Up, I confidently recommend them to everyone!

10 KW PV

These guys were fantastic! I was looking at a lease from a large company. It seemed too good to be true and it was. After talking with Jeff at SSU he showed me all of the reasons never to lease a system. I purchased one from SSU. I now pay less every month for my loan payment than my electric bill. I take the difference and pay my loan down every month. All the interest is a write off! Plus I got a 30% tax credit. They totally saved me. Their installation was so clean and quick I could not believe it. <br /><br />These guys are simply the best<br /><br />W-
