Review for Sungevity (Residential)

Strong start, few speed bumps, pretty good follow-through

Sungevity was pretty good. They are very professional on the intake process -- my project manager was just an absolutely even-keeled good guy who really earned my trust. But they seem much less interested in post-install customer support and their hours are very short. I'm not sure whether they are a virtual company or what, but everyone I spoke with seemed to have a totally different phone number.

We'll see how close their predictions came when we get to better weather, but in the week my system's been commissioned it hasn't come close to their production numbers. Now, it's been stormy and cloudy for the most part, but in the first week of operation my $35,000 system has produced a whopping $6.16 worth of electricity, based on my current rates!! I trust this will improve with better weather and longer days.

The installation process was a little odd as well. First, I showed up and they had installed all the "balance of system" equipment on the side of the house. It was super ugly. We had never talked about that aspect of the design. So I asked them to re-do it indoors, and fortunately they did so but it left big holes in the side of the house that I'll have to get fixed, obviously at my own expense.

I thought the local crew they used to do the install was quite good though. Rough looking but very smart and courteous. Impressed for sure.

I guess time will tell whether this thing actually produces, or what. In my region of the country, you're crazy not to do it, since the incentives are excellent. But of course it needs to actually produce the anticipated power.
