Great Experience So Far

I did a lot of research before encountering Sungevity. I knew Solar City had a poor reputation locally, so when I got a mailer for Sungevity for $1000 off, I gave them a call. The salesperson (Kristen) I was connected with was very knowledgeable and friendly, and before I committed to purchasing we probably had 20 emails where she patiently answered my questions. I'm a mechanical engineer, so I wanted to understand how everything worked before purchasing. I was going to purchase the panels and install myself with a local electrical contractor friend, but I realized it would be easier and better to spend the extra couple thousand to have them do it and warranty the work. Sungevity provides warranty against roof damage from the installation, an annual production guarantee (they cut you a check if your system doesn't product what they promised it would for each year), and they also provide all the warranty service. It was also handy that they do all the paperwork for pulling the permit and coordinating with the utility company as well.
Start to finish the process was about 2 months, and all I had to do was watch it happen! We're coming up on our first true-up, and the production is on track and better than expected. They also have a referral program that gives cash back to you and your friend if they sign up. I can't imagine the other reviews having bad experiences, but I guess it does depend on the specific person you work with.
By my own math, the system will pay for itself in about 7-8 years, and by the end of the 20 year warranty I'll have an extra $20,000 in my pocket. Not to mention that the system will probably last longer than that. No regrets.
