Our garage roof is filled with solar panels. We have a gas-powered back-up generator. The project cost $34,000. On our first month of solar power in May Jemez Electric decided their paperwork wasn't completed, so they didn't recognize the solar meter. On our second month in June with lots of sun, and, admittedly, lots of air conditioning, we saved $16.98. We paid a bill for $278. This is about the same as last year without the solar panels. What's wrong? The system passed inspection so I don't know. This is a horrible expense for no savings. When I turn off the air conditioners, air purifiers, all overhead fans, and everything except the refrigerator and freezer, the meter does reverse and a little bit of extra power is produced.
