Kenergy Solar helped me go Green: My Story

My house in Clarksville, MD has the perfect orientation for a solar PV system, and I was intrigued and excited when I learned about the solar leasing concept of $0 cost to me. However, as an aesthetically conscious design professional, and as president of my “upscale” community HOA, I needed to set a good example if I was to install a solar PV system on the front roof of my south facing house. The generic industrial looking panels offered by the solar leasing companies were just unacceptable. So, although somewhat discouraged, my curiosity had been raised and I proceeded to search the internet for the best looking panels. My search ended when I found the highly touted “best quality, most efficient and most attractive panels in the industry”, manufactured by the prestigious SunPower Corporation based in California. So I called their home office and was quickly referred to one of their pre-qualified installers in Maryland, Kenergy-Solar.

I should mention that at this point I was only curious and still under the impression that purchasing my own system was far too expensive for me; but I wanted to find out the real cost. One of my first questions to the person who took my call at Kenergy was, “how can you possibly compete with the leasing companies that offer solar at $0 cost to homeowner?” I admit that I didn't fully understand the detailed answer having to do with Fed & State incentives, tax credits, rebates, ESRECs, etc. but I was impressed by the Kenergy salesperson's pleasant & patient manner and agreed to schedule an appointment. Six months later my house is graced by a very dignified yet understated 14.74 kW solar energy system, (fully guaranteed for 25 years by not only Kenergy, but also backed by SunPower); and scheduled to pay for itself in 8-10 years.

Pleased to recommend Kenergy Solar: I'm obviously proud of my system and pleased to grant the Kenergy team a raving review from start to finish as follows:
Salesperson – very patient (with all my questions), knowledgeable, and not at all pushy (which is a big issue with me)
Engineering – as a design professional myself, I was very impressed with the quality & depth of the design & implementation plans for the system.
Construction Foreman – patient & very accommodating as I requested field changes to satisfy my aesthetic eye. I know that customer imposed field changes can be frustrating for any contractor, but this foreman gave meaning to customer satisfaction.
Construction Crew – diligent, friendly, meticulous about cleanup, willingly made minor unrelated roof repairs at request.
Owner, Ken Stadlin – I was pleased to notice Ken's personal involvement in the project with several field visits & final inspection issues.

Negatives: Had a couple missteps in scheduling and communication with county inspections & bureaucracies, but considering the complexities and number of agencies involved, it's not fair to complain, as no one is perfect.

Summary: All of the Kenergy team were most professional and courteous, and their desire to satisfy the customer was obvious. They surely earned this customer's praises.
