Review for Auric Energy (formerly Auric Solar and Solaroo Energy)

Lackluster

Even with the advertised referral bonus I wouldn't recommend Auric to any friends or family. Our experience with them was very mixed. On the positive side, they made the initial signup process very easy. They also use high quality components for their systems.

The biggest issue we had with Auric is the SERIOUS lack of communication and or miscommunication. After signing the paperwork, we knew that it could be up to 2 months before a permit would be issued and work would begin. No biggie. Once the permit was issued, Auric and Rocky mountain met at our residence to discuss the building plan. Rocky mountain informed us that the planned location of our meter would not work due to a building code violation regarding the allowed distance for an overhead powerline to pass over my roof. This set off a month long ordeal of going back and forth between Rocky Mountain and Auric in order to find a suitable location for the meter. The problem is that I was constantly put in the middle. Rocky mountain would tell me one thing and Auric would tell me something else. Nobody ever called me to explain what was going on. I was always the one to have to initiate contact with Auric to get an update. This went on for weeks until I finally told the Auric rep that if Rocky and Auric didn't figure out a solution, I was going to walk from the project. By this point, I had already had a section of my roof redone so I contacted the sales rep in order to ask him how I could reimburse them for the roofwork and I could wash my hands of the project. I was told that in addition to the roofwork, I would be responsible to pay for the building permits.

Fast forward a week and Rocky and Auric came to an agreement. There was apparently some miscommunication because I came home to a house with no power. Rocky had been told that the install was happening on a certain date and they showed up and cut my power.

After the install was finally done, the meter ended up being installed just a few feet away from the original planned location and is still in violation of building code, which makes me wonder "if you were going to violate building code in the first place, why did you put me through a month of nonsense going back and forth with Rocky mountain?!?".

We have now received our first power bill since the solar install and it looks as though the panels have not come close to offsetting our energy bill as was promised. We are environmentally conscious, and are excited to be able to reduce our carbon footprint. But we made the decision to switch to solar power because we thought it made sense financially. I am now skeptical of how much of a difference it is going to make.

I'm giving Auric 3/5 which I feel is generous. I knocked off 1 star for the terrible communication and headaches from the installation process. I also knocked off a star due to the price. During the brief moment in which we were considering abandoning the project, I got quotes from other companies and Auric was consistently several thousand dollars higher for an almost identical system.

As stated earlier, we are happy about our choice to switch to solar power, but if I could go back and do it over again i would not have gone with auric.
