Solar Installation in a Publicly Owned Utility Town

1. Installation was flawless. The crew came when they said they would, kept us informed of the progress and cleaned up.

2. The installed inverters made by Power-One (now ABB) malfunctioned. The cause was the arc-fault breaker which electric code in Massachusetts and a few other states is required for solar panels installed on occupied buildings. Massachusetts is ahead of most other states in requiring arc fault breakers. Unfortunately we also became the testing ground for working out the bugs. NECE worked with the ABB to resolve the problem and it has been. This was not NECE's error. However clearer, more transparent and regular communication would have helped. We would still recommend NECE. They were always very prompt in responding to question and concerns to the depth and detail that you want. At this point our system is running as promised.

3. We believe our system was the first NECE installed in a publicly owned municipal light company. NECE assumed, incorrectly, that installation was the same as communities where electricity is provided by a private company. The problem required a minor addition and they absorbed the cost. Next time they will know the difference.

4. Perhaps the best recommendation comes from the fact that we had problems and that those problems were addressed and resolved. This is a new complex technology that is changing. You can be assured that if there are issues NECE will not abandon you.
