AM Sun Solar & Roofing

We purchased our PV system from AM Solar after interviewing 4 other Installers, too. Some of the others acted like used car salesmen, being very aggressive and less than forthcoming, one even trying to get us to sign a contract online even before getting their quote in writing ("you have days to cancel under CA law"). AM Sun Solar came to our house and surveyed our electric usage situation and the roof site, then went back to their office to engineer a particularized system, and then sent a written quote with specifications and full disclosure of the solar panels and inverter being proposed. Their professionalism gave us confidence about the rest of the process. We purchased a 5.5 kWh system, with good quality components, and prearranged financing through a credit union. The cost was about $25,000, at 5% interest for 12 years, which compared well with another quote we received from another installer for a smaller system for $55,000. According to the math, the system should pay for itself through PG&E savings in about 6 years, applying the Fed 30% tax credit. And our monthly payments for the solar system are lower than our old electric bills irregardless. Plus we essentially have zeroed out contributing to pollution through our energy usage. A no-brainer: a win for our wallets, and a win for the environment! AM Solar installation was quick, easy, efficient, and clean, and did not disturb our neighbors. Now the system is up and running and appears to deliver as promised. We cannot conceive of a better solar installer, nor a better consumer experience!

Btw, according to CA solar sites, we should save $57,600 in pre-inflation energy costs over 20 years' usage, plus an additional $37,440 when the historic +5% electric rate escalator is added in. That totals $95,040! In addition, value has been added to the equity or selling price of our house already, to the tune of $37,700.23, calculating in an "average" energy usage rate. But that actually rises to $54,195.78, estimating a "high" energy usage rate, which tracks our actual family usage for the past 20 years. This appears to be an investment that actually pays for itself, while helping preserve our environment. Thanks to AM Sun Solar. (Btw, there are a lot of information resources on the internet about solar, so be sure to avail yourselves of them at all stages of a solar purchase. For example, I discovered from our inverter manufacturer's website that it uniquely provides a backup source of electricity via solar energy during a utility blackout during daylight hours, something I have been seeking independently for a decade now. And I discovered this internet tidbit in the middle of the PV installation process, very happily indeed.)
