I purchased a 10 kW ground mount system with no shading issues.
I had 24 - D380's installed in 2011. 8 failed in the first two years. The installed stopped swapping them out after 2 years, despite their 5 year warranty.
Today I have an 11th failed unit, contacted Enphase support over a month ago and have yet to receive a response. I have even had one warranty replacement fail.
There are grid-tie string inverters on the market, some will supply emergency power (as long as the sun is shinning) locally when the grid is down.
