Con Edison Solutions (formerly Ross Solar)

Contract was signed in November of 2021, with an estimated 5 month time to complete. It has been over 14 months, and I have wasted considerable time trying to move things along. Most of the delays have been unexplained. Maybe a couple extra months were due to UI (the utility), but the rest I do not understand or were easily avoidable. During the delays, Con Edison Solutions failed to notify the bank or ask the bank for an extension so the financing fell through, leading to far higher interest rates.

Everything worked out great pre-sale and they were very helpful to make the right decision. I DocuSigned the agreement April 1 and it's now 8 months later and we don't have our solar operational. Every step of the way they have been nearly impossible to engage with and they missed 2 appointments with our town for permitting and most recently have taken over 3 weeks to respond to a simple e-mail from UI to get the process to the next step. It takes 3-5 emails and phone calls just to get a response from the team and there's not an apology or compensation for my time and efforts.

I feel compelled to write down a few words of praise that Ross Solar deserve . It has been one year that we went solar. We went to a few meeting in Durham-Middlefield to learn about the program they were offering. I had no idea if this was worth it at our age (60+) Would we ever get our returned on investment. Jim Paradis followed up with a number of home visits and laid out a proposal that answered many of my questions.He explained the tax credits both state and federal.explained net metering . I really put my trust in him when deciding to go forward. His team calculated enough panels so we would generate enough electricity to meet our needs.The work began and in a few weeks we were up an running.I will say that the laborers were also great. They were polite and worked clean. As they had to work both inside and out I trusted them. Awesome job... I would average $350-$400 bill a month to eversource ....for the first year it has Average $13 . System will be paid off in 5 years . There is a 25 year parts and labor warranty .....Everything that Jim told me would happen came true. Could not be happier with this company. Would love to meet with you or show you the system. The process to get the job started was slow which impacted the overall rating. I think they were overwhelmed with the popularity of the "Energize" program in Connecticut at the time. I pushed them to fit the max number of panels on the roof and go with higher end inverters during the design process; so I would have capacity for a geothermal heating/cooling system. Their designer knows his stuff. It's silly to be impatient though, because I haven't had solar my entire life... so what's a few months more? Once they got started it went pretty well and they always communicated before showing up to do work. They did a great job with the panel installation. The heart of the system is really the inverters and the various electrical... which far exceeds expectation.

Had our solar power system installed in August 2016. Sales consultant Peter Dion did a great job guiding us through the sales/installation process, and answering my many questions so that I could understand as much about this large investment as possible. Ross Solar worked with us on delaying the project so that a new roof could first be installed and paid for (unexpected expense). We even got free upgraded panels out of the delay! Installation did have a hitch with how the system was grounded (identified by the town inspector), which was rectified quickly. System has performed beyond the expected performance that was specified in the quote. Online web portal gets the job done for monitoring performance. Overall, good value for a high quality job.

We had a stress free very smooth experience working with Ross Solar. There wasn't any point that they weren't able to answer our questions and they stuck to their time table as agreed upon. I would highly recommend using Ross Solar.

Me and my wife's solar journey began 5 years ago. We thought about solar, and quickly forgot about it. Two years ago we got serious and contacted another company for a quote. Well this company did not send a representative, they did the analysis remotely. We still had a lot of questions and we felt uneasy with doing business remotely. A friend of mine recommended Ross Solar to us, and we contacted them. Walter from Ross Solar came to our house a couple of times two summers ago. Even though we decided not to purchase a system, he answered all of our questions with a no-rush, no-pushy attitude. Last year, we decided to make the solar purchase and Ross Solar helped to make the process as smooth as possible. After 6 months with the panels installed, we are producing more energy than we need. Ross Solar was recommended by Wilton town environmental groups including Go Green. That gave us a lot of confidence that they knew how to manage the installation and get the US and CT tax credits and rebates. The sales person, Jim Paradis, did an outstanding job of determining how to set up our system and how many panels we would need etc. He was also able to tell us exactly how much energy our system could be expected to provide and how that would cover our needs. He answered dozens of questions in a way that was always clear and helpful. Glenn Simons. our project manager, did a great job with all the details of the actual installation. We have a ca 1870 house so there were lots of inconveniences to deal with. The team did it without a hitch. Although I think they would say that digging the trench for the power line from our garage to the house was challenging. There were lots of huge rocks. All the permits were also handled by Ross Solar. Our installation was completed on Nov. 3 and even for these short and cloudy winter days we are seeing a big difference in our monthly utility bills. We have been very pleased with the work that Ross Solar did for us and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in a solar installation. I feel very good that we are making a difference that is good for the planet even more than the fact that it is saving us money. We expect the installation to pay for itself in about 10 years.

Installation by Ross Solar was a great experience. The company provided a thorough review of our location and suitability for solar. Based on this review a detailed solar plan was provided. The installation went flawless and on time. The system is working exactly as planned and producing the full electric power for my house. I selected to pay for the installation. With tax benefits my investment is producing a return of investment of 8 % now and probably more in the future. Ross Solar is a very professional and responsive company. Any questions I had were answered immediately. The staff is highly trained and the installation went without a hitch.

The Ross Solar team was very helpful at explaining the process and the various costs. They also worked with us on the design so that we were comfortable with the system. On the whole they were very easy to coordinate with, as the few delays we had were on our end. The system is up and running and we are very happy with it.

I had a fantastic experience with Ross Solar Group. I used them to install a large residential solar panel system at my home in 2014 (60+ panels). I evaluated several options, including Solar City and Sungevity, but ultimately I chose SunPower panels installed by Ross Solar. I made that choice for two main reasons: (i) the SunPower panels offered the best combination of output and cost for our project, and (ii) Ross Solar took a consultative, hands-on approach to assessing what we needed and designing the system. From that point forward, the process was seamless. Ross Solar managed everything very professionally and on time; they communicated well throughout; and the installation itself was done with minimal impact on us. I've had the system now for 2 years, and it has run without interruption for the whole time. It has generated about 15-18% more power than we projected, and my electricity bills have dropped significantly, probably 80% or more. I've recommended Ross Solar (and SunPower panels) to several people and I will continue to. The process was great all around.

Our PV installation of 30 panels in Brookfield, Conn. has been working for about a year now and covers about 3/4 of our usage. On a sunny day they produce between 400 kW-hours in mid-March to over 750 kW-hours in April through August. As a result we pay only the Eversource connection charge ($19) for 2/3 of the year and a significant energy charge only in December, January, and February.

Some friends had good luck with Ross, so we thought we were making a good choice when they came to town. We were partially right ... the system, once it was turned on is working very well (2 months so far) and I couldn't ask for a more professional install team (electrician and panel installers). Problem 1: After the panels were installed we found out from the town inspector that our roof was supposed to be reinforced (per engineers report from 5 months prior). Problem 2: we could have done the upgraded when we redid the roof, if we had known. Problem 3: their inspectors (the guys who delivered house measurements / information to the engineer) made mistakes about the structure of our house. ... Actually, since they reported less structure / supports then were actually in the house, it was what allowed us to keep the system. Problem 4: Ross was slow to respond ... The issue was discovered at the beginning of November and only fixed near the end of December. I was ready to demand that the panels be removed because of a fear of a winter similar to 2014/2015. Problem 5: Because of not taking care of what the engineer said to do in his report, Or "go live" date was delayed 2 months. Problem 6: What they talk about in the sales pitch isn't what's in their "all in one price". ex) The inverter system is supposed to come with an emergency outlet (labeled as a standard part in the inverter documentation), but we didn't know it wasn't included until after the install was complete. Big Problem 7: The system size is not what the put in the contract. On the contract they list the system size at 7.3 kw , without any labels as to what they are referring to. As the consumer that number is the Total AC power that I can get. But it is NOT! We are getting at least 5% less taken right off the top! -- a max of ONLY 7 kw! (even before considering that the equipment is less than 100%). Now, if you do some research on the internet, part of the reason for this difference (7.3 kw dc --> 7 kw ac) is standard industry practice to get the best results over the entire year. If I had known about this when we signed the contract, it would have been acceptable. But realizing it later ended up pushing their rating down. Problem 8/9: Other friends have been having issues (kind of cancelled out the good feelings we got from the friends who were some of the first to get solar in town) The GOOD!! As I said the installers did superb work. Once the system was turned on, it is performing great. We've had a lot of sunny days during our first 2 months (mid Jan - mid Mar), but I think the panels will have taken care of 80% of our electrical needs already! At the end of the day, I am happy I went Solar and look forward to very small electric bills, but I wish I didn't need to go through 4 months of headaches.

I evaluated 5 different solar panel installers before selecting Ross Solar to install our home's solar panels. Ross Solar was extremely knowledgeable and responsive. They worked closely with us to custom design the exact system we wanted - giving us advice on what would best suit our home, sun exposure, energy needs, and price considerations. They gave us detailed quotes on numerous system options, and even designed the system to allow the addition of another 6 panels in the future should we decide to buy an electric car some day. Importantly, they did not try to sell us a "cookie-cutter system" that would not have been best for us - unlike some other installers. Once we decided on a final system, also Ross Solar provided the lowest quote for that system. Unlike several other installers, Ross Solar also had a clear, well-written contract with a turn-key price that made us comfortable that we knew exactly what we were paying and what we were getting. They also have one of the best installation guarantees. Before installing, they sent us diagrams of the final system and how it would be placed on the house - to approve. They gladly made a minor tweak to enhance the aesthetics (we requested a change in the placement of one of the external conduits, with more of it being located in the attic before dropping down to the electric pane outside the house). Ross Solar has an excellent team. Everyone we worked with was friendly and patiently answered all of our questions, including their sales representatives, their office staff, their project manager, their engineers, their electricians, their installers, their final inspector, and their management. They scheduled our installation around a vacation that we had planned, came when promised, and completed the work on time. They also had someone come the day of the inspection, to check everything was OK before the system was turned on. When he identified a minor problem, he arranged for an electrician to take care of it - the only issue being that it took an extra week to turn-on our system because everyone was so busy with other installations it took a week for an electrician to come back to our house. After our system was installed, Ross Solar made sure we knew how it worked and how to monitor our power production; they requested detailed feedback on our experience, and continued to patiently answer any remaining questions we had. Our system has been working since July 2015, and we could not be happier. Because of Ross Solar's service, knowledge, and results, I have recommended them to others in our Town, who have also been happy working with them.

Our experience with Ross Solar was 5-star perfect in every way except one. Due, I believe, to their rapid expansion at the time we employed them, there were multiple delays in getting our system installed, and there were times it was not clear what should be happening. I believe these issues came from Ross Solar being a small company at the time in the midst of expansion, and would not expect them to be a problem any longer. Every other aspect was 100% excellent - the sales staff were knowledgeable, not at all pushy, and helped us get the best fit for our home. The engineers and electricians were top notch, efficient, happy to answer questions, and did work that has given us no issues and looks very well-put-together. The one time we had a system fault (due to our old rattly garage door shaking loose a connection) they were able to get an electrician out to fix it free of charge within a few days. I would happily recommend them.

Its been a year since our system has been turned on. Other than our minimum charge by the power company - about $19.50 per month - we have paid ZERO for electricity supplied by the power company. Our system was installed by Ross Solar through the Energize CT program which combined with federal tax credits made for a very affordable system. Our 5.5KW system ended up costing us $9500 out of pocket. In our first year, our system offset $500 in purchased power, with about 1500kw of surplus power which will be purchased by the power company at wholesale rates. This savings is equivalent to making 5% on our investment. The system will add at least $15,000 to the value of our house, which the town does not tax. Ross Solar did a great job on the design and installation of our system. Two other vendors actually didn't want our project since they deemed it too small or not cost effective!! Ross Solar was great to deal with and I highly recommend them.

I initially made the mistake of deciding to go with one of the big national solar installers. They rejected my project because it was not a "cookie cutter" type job and they made up a bunch of excuses why they couldn't do it. I then found Ross Solar and they were willing to do the job that included 3 roof planes, a very steep roof (42 deg) and snaking wire through an underground conduit that runs from my house to my garage. They guided me through the process, they did a great job on the installation and I'm very happy.

Had 30 LG panels installed on my roof by Ross Solar. They did an outstanding job with the installation, it took about a day and half and they kept me in the loop the entire time. Throughout the whole process they were extremely responsive. Signed the deal in April and had installation in December (kind of frustrating it took that long, but that's the way solar is), during that time they kept me updated on the process and always got back to me quickly when I had questions.

Ross SOlar installed PV panels on our roof this year. They were vetted by the Ossining Solarize Westchester program and proved the best choice. Ross handled all of our gov't filings, and the installers couldn't have done a better or neater job. The payment terms were clear and very fair. Office staff answered all our questions clearly and promptly.

We did some shopping around before deciding on Ross Solar Group. Their prices were certainly competitive and they had installed panels on our next door neighbor's house with happy results. There were some delays waiting for town approvals but those were not the fault of Ross Solar. They were efficient and very easy to deal with. They came on time, installed everything properly (even during the winter) and we barely knew they were there. Now our electric bills are a tiny fraction of what they used to be! We are extremely happy with our entire experience with Ross Solar Group!

(Our system was part of a state incentive program) Communications from the office was timely and quite helpful. Our only delays were from the Town Hall or utility company. The construction components seemed top notch. The crew was very thorough and cleaned up after themselves. They answered our question and offered helpful comments. We would rate the company a definite 10. In fact, we would hope any other company that does work for us would be this good. We have already recommended them to those that have shown any interest.

The overall experience has been a very positive one. I am disappointed in the delayed responses to our phone calls once we had the system installed. Prior to that all our inquiries were promptly answered. Now we have to make 2-3 calls before we get a return call. The installation process was right on schedule but once that was completed it took several phone calls to get the various parties together to inspect the system before it could be turned on and go on line. Of course that is where our priorities were focused.

I interviewed several Solar companies before I made my decision. I was impressed with the professionalism with Ross Solar Group. No Sales gimics just the hard facts about solar and what it can do for me and my family. Rose did not knock their competition but answered all my questions I gleaned from other companies. After I signed the contract the process began. Great communication and great implementation of the system. The installers were great. After they left you couldn't find a lick of trash around the house. It was like they never was there doing the installation. I turned on the system after inspection and I am saving kwh immediately. I am generating an average of 40 per day and using only 15. Thanks Ross so glad my family went with you.

After talking to 5 different solar companies, I chose Ross Solar to install my solar panels because they were the company that gave me the most accurate information. All their employees were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. They answered all my questions promptly. The only criticism that I have is that I had to wait 7 months to get my panels installed. But it was worth the wait and I am a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend Ross Solar to anyone who is interested in installing solar panels. Unfortunately, other solar companies gave me erroneous information, such as which roof I could use for my panels and the number of panels I could fit on my roof. Companies with out-of-state sales reps were not aware of changes in CT regulations. As I said before, the employees at Ross Solar were friendly and knowledgeable, gave me the best info, and did a great job installing the panels.

Background research on Ross Solar made them a leading candidate. The sales associate solidified them as the right vendor as questions were answered thoroughly. Our only hesitation was in the price tag; however, the quoted price was competitive and no additional costs were added on. I recommend not delaying too long as state/federal rebates are prone to changes and can raise your costs (this did happen to us with a 6 month delay). The "same as cash program" offered is a convenience. The loan is not signed until after work completed and can give 12 to 18 months depending upon the program offered to allow filing of taxes to recoup federal credits. From contract agreement to installation was quick and on schedule. Job was completed in 1 day. Clean-up was satisfactory. Requests for placement of inverter and conduit were met without issue. New blown insulation in attic suffered least amount of disturbance possible. Electricians and roofers were polite and conversational. The panels are up. They look good (to me). Even my wife who isn't thrilled on the aesthetics says it is a cleaner look than she was expecting. They generate electricity. Actual vs estimate is unknown and variable on weather, but at least 85% when compared to NREL.gov calculator and (so far) exceeding the more conservative estimate from Ross Solar on how much we would generate. I would recommend them to others. I would make the choice to put solar on my roof again if I had the option go back and do it again. I would use Ross Solar again in that scenario.

Ross Solar is amazing! We love our PV system. The Clean Energy Fund inspectors who looked at our system commented on what a well designed and neat install it was. This was the best contractor experience I have ever had and I highly recommend Ross Solar.

Ross Solar was selected because I felt they offered a professional electrician that was properly trained and knew the industrial standards for PV installations. I was also impressed to know that Jason Ross was working with individuals that would make sure that the municipalities would establish the correct codes for this type of system. The incentive that was the deciding factor is that the monthly Lease expense was less than my average monthly bill from CL&P. I thought it was a good decision at the time to lease and I am still happy with this decision.

Ross is a small company, in which the principals are directly involved. I always had a direct response to any inquiry. Their installation crew was efficient and precise. I would be happy to recommend them to a potential customer.
